Exciting New Development Work StartsJune 1, 2010
Work is starting on a major refurbishment programme to upgrade facilities at St Michael’s and enhance the student and visitor experience.
Andrew Scott Ltd based in Port Talbot near Swansea has been appointed as contractor to undertake the refurbishment programme at the college this summer. Andrew Scott have undertaken many contracts including Parc Y Scarlets (Scarlets Stadium) in Llanelli, Rhondda College at Llwynypia, and the Millennium Visitor Centre, Llanelli for to name but a few. The college is upgrading the listed building thanks to an investment totalling £1.1million from the Church in Wales. The work will involve installing en-suite bathrooms throughout the accommodation block, and also provide an accessible front door access and lift to the first floor, upgrading the ground floor rooms and adding a new reception area.
College Principal, Rev’d Canon Dr Peter Sedgwick said
“The investment is a vote of confidence in the college. It is a gem of a building in a stunning location but, like many beautiful old buildings, has been held back because of the costs involved in maintaining it and adapting it for today’s needs. The college will now be able to play its full part in the training of clergy and in providing a tranquil location for conferences right in the heart of Cardiff”
Mike Grindle, Managing Director of Andrew Scott said
“We are delighted to have secured this prestigious project for St Michael’s College and are looking forward to working with the College in transforming such a beautiful building to enhance their future training needs”
Work commences mid June and will be completed with a phased handover to allow both September conferences and the return for students at the end of September.
